The Master Player
Read Galatians 2:19-21
Paul wrote, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
-Galatians 2:20 (NIV)
I watched as my sister carefully strummed the strings of the guitar. After several attempts to explain to her a technique and to demonstrate it, I realized that another approach was required. Stepping behind her, I put my hand over hers. "Let me control the stroke, and then you'll be able to feel how this is supposed to work."
My sister consented, but as I started to move her arm, I could feel her resisting. "Just let me control the stroke," I repeated. But, again, I could feel her trying to move the pick across the strings.
Later, as I pondered this, Galatians 2:20 came to mind. My sister was not able to allow me to guide her hands. I found myself asking how often I agree to allow the Spirit to control my life only to immediately attempt to perform "righteous" acts from my own strength and understanding instead. I realize now that only by permitting the Spirit to work through me will I ever be able to truly follow Christ.

Dear Father, forgive us for the times when we depend only on our own strength. Teach us to rely on your Spirit, trusting you to work what is good through us. Amen.

Only by allowing God to guide us will we become master players.
